This seem to be a reported deadlock issue of the hid-core kernel module. Once you install the Ubuntu testing version of the 4.4 version you will realize that the device only work with the finger and the system hang if you try to use the pen. The Linux Wacom driver that support this devices was released later 2015 (few weeks ago) and is merged to linux-4.4 so to get the device working you will need to install this kernel version.
